The week after the summer break, our school started a new, fascinating journey: Visiting Eastbourne for the very first time – a city full of history, breathtaking scenery, and unforgettable memories.
We stayed with host families, which seemed a bit scary at first. But after getting to know them, we realized there was nothing to worry about as they were very kind, welcoming and caring.
Monday: Beachy Head & Eastbourne
The first day began with a hike along Beachy Head, the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain. It offered absolutely stunning views of the sea and the famous Seven Sisters. It was very windy that day, which made the hike very funny as we were all close to flying away! In the afternoon, we visited Eastbourne’s beautiful pier and spent some time downtown, where we saw cute shops and pubs. Shopping at the Beacon mall was definitely a must, and we finally got to try Taco Bell – a dream come true!
Tuesday: Weald and Downland Living Museum
On day 2, we made our way to Chichester to visit a very special museum: Weald and Downland Living Museum. Unlike regular museums, this open-air museum felt like walking through an old village with many different places like cute cottages, workshops, and even a medieval shop. You could also pay a visit to the adorable sheep, ducks and swans or walk through the woodland. There were also unique activities like playing traditional British games in Hambrook Barn!
Wednesday: Hastings Battlefield + Tea Ceremony
Day 3 took us to Hastings: A city with rich history! We started at Hastings Battlefield, where we learned about the Battle of Hastings – a turning point in British history. We saw legendary buildings and statues, and a short film! Afterwards, we attended a British tea ceremony in the British Tea Museum, where a kind lady taught us how to drink tea properly and introduced us to various flavors! We also tried scones for the first time. They were delicious! Everyone dressed up in funny costumes and wigs, pretending to be witches or royalty while riding in a carriage, which we loved. Later, we explored Hastings on our own.
Thursday: London
The final day was the one we had all been waiting for: A trip to London! We already arrived early and stopped near the O2 Arena. Of course, we had to visit iconic attractions like Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace! We even visited world- renowned museums: the Science Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum. Each one was fascinating – from dinosaur skeletons to Princess Diana’s dresses. The weather was perfect too! Fun fact: Prince William and Princess Kate actually visited the Natural History Museum that day! In the evening, we made our way back to the O2 Arena before heading home.
Overall, the trip was absolutely amazing! We loved it and recommend going to England in 9th grade! It’s a trip full of new experiences, places, and people – something we will always cherish.
